Brittle heart

Ashes cover my heart,
Buried deep in death colored smoke,
Smothered in my smile
lies,
A shape shifting grin,
Tainted by hopes and aspirations,
Muddled by sin,
Unwashed and dirty,
My soul screams goodbye,
Deep seeded truth,
covered with lava,
Hoping to never reach the brim,
With the wounds of all that I have hurt,
Festering and infected,
Love was the only antiseptic,
Truth was the bandage,
Wrapped and bonded tight,
Only living in black and white,
Until grey began to creep,
Infiltrating my happiness,
Wounds never heal.
